About Zion

ZION Assemblies of God (AOG) Church is a visionary Church, whose strong foundation is on Christ, the Rock. This spiritual foundation has enabled the Church to grow multifold as God’s purposes are fulfilled in this special Church. Apostle Paul says, “Like a wise master builder I laid a foundation” (I Corinthians 3:10) and “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (I Corinthians 3:5).

The word “Zion” essentially means Fortification – this in simple terms is a defensive structure. For the children of God, Zion is a place of refuge and encouragement, where many come to praise and worship Jesus, the Lord of Lords. Peter refers to Christ as the Cornerstone of Zion: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame” (1 Peter 2:6).

Founded in 1961 by the English missionaries Rev & Mrs. Lawrence Livesey, Zion had its humble beginning in an upper room in R.S. Puram and later shifted to its present location in Church road. The Church services started with just a handful of people. The Lord multiplied His flock and tremendous growth has been witnessed, with more than 1500 people. The Church is growing strong each day by the abundant hand of God. The vision that God has given for Zion is that of a mighty army, a spotless bride, and a fruitful vine.

The mission of Zion Church is to glorify God by restoring, nurturing, equipping, and encouraging every individual believer to love, worship, and serve the Lord Jesus by making disciples of all nations.
